Personally Speaking...
I'm just a dude that likes swimming, riding bikes, and the internetz. If you like any of those things there's a good chance that we can be friends. I grew up in Wisconsin but I've called the Central Coast of California home since the mid 90's even though I lived a few other places (Sweden, Texas, Monterey...) in the middle. If you want to know anything else about me outside of what I do at work you can follow my swimming blog which I am very active with, or you can say hi to me on Twitter.

Automotive Business
Smith Volvo Lotus, San Luis Obispo
At Smith Volvo Lotus I was one of only 3 sales people for the whole store and had to learn basically everything about any car you could think of. We specialized in high end vehicles (Lotus, Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, Maserati, Ferrari, etc.) but sold the occasional Suzuki Samurai or Nissan Sentra. At Smith Volvo I relied on the Internet to generate sales leads for myself. I utilized Craigslist, Google Adwords, and Car Forums to sell everything from Lotus Exige's to 100k+ mile Volvo wagons to customers as far away as Washington.
Toyota Scion San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo, CA
At Toyota I started as a floor sales consultant and after about a year of pushing the issue I managed to get a one man (me) Internet Department off the ground. As the Fleet & Internet Manager I handled all of the Internet leads from Toyota and I also ran my own web sites to trap leads. This is also where I learned to leverage Craigslist and Car Forums to generate business.
While at Toyota SLO I was picked to participate in a Walk Around competition based on the Toyota Tundra. I won the Gold Coast District and qualified for the SoCal competition. I was 2nd overall in Southern California Region (Toyota's Biggest). It was a really interesting experience. I had to do a full walk around of the Toyota Tundra for a Toyota corporate employee who was pretending to be a customer. The weird part was the Tundra was inside a Hilton meeting room, I had two mikes on me, there was a camera crew, and about 10 spectators including guys from Toyota Japan corporate. This was the type of thing I would have never volunteered for at the time but I'm really glad I did it because it helped develop my confidence as a presenter and public speaker.
U.S. Army
344th Military Intelligence Battalion, Goodfellow AFB, TX
At Goodfellow AFB I completed the Electronic Warfare Signals Intelligence course (98C). The course really developed my analytical skills and taught me to find actionable patterns in data. This has actually translated well to my current profession of Internet Marketing!
While at Goodfellow AFB I also spent time in administrative positions at the platoon and battalion level. I went back and forth between assisting my platoon sergeant in managing the 40+ soldiers in our platoon and helping out in S-1 which was responsible for the administrative actions for the whole battalion.
229th Military Intelligence Battalion, Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA
I learned a lot at DLI including things like Korean, boot shining, how to drive a 5 ton truck, and how to hide from a drill sergeant. Aside from completing the Korean Basic program I worked in the orderly room for A and B Companies. I handled administrative tasks, helped put out the daily action notice, escorted contractors in our buildings, assigned other soldiers to details, and occasionally I found myself on the ultra exclusive vegetation assault squad.
At the Presidio I had the opportunity to be a Squad leader at both companies that I was assigned to. I also earned my P.T. Patch for high scores on my Army Physical Fitness Test.
Ft. Leonard Wood, MO
Completed Basic Combat Training during the wonderment that is the Missouri winter. Learned everything about shooting, push ups, being yelled at, how to throw a grenade, fire a rocket launcher, set up a claymore mine, how to make white bread taste like cake with butter and sugar packets, and oddly enough... how to iron. While at Fort Lost in the Woods I earned a marksman badge with an M-16, and Expert badges for bayonets and grenades.

Completed the Korean Basic course, a 63 week long intensive language immersion class that covered reading, writing, listening and speaking of the Korean language. Course also covered cultural and area studies.
AFS Exchange Student, Nacka Gymnasium, Sweden
Probably the best thing I ever talked my parents into. I learned to speak Swedish by watching bad American TV shows that had Swedish subtitles. I also did more reading than I have ever done in my life. I probably checked out 3/4 of the English section of the Stockholm library.
